Music Sheets

Our vision is to offer music programs for students of all ages to enrich their education and personal growth through the study and performance of vocal and instrumental music. We aim to make a positive impact on our students and our community!

The Weston Youth Center for Musical Arts was founded by educators David Scimonelli and Natalie Rodriguez to enhance the music education opportunities available to students in the West Broward community. The center offers group classes on various instruments and choral singing. As passionate teachers and proud parents of four children, we understand the importance of a well-rounded education and believe in the power of the arts as a vital component of children finding their voice in today's world.

Who is Dr. Scimonelli?

I am a professional percussionist and music educator. I teach general and instrumental music at Eagle Point Elementary School in Broward County and perform as a Percussionist with the Miami Symphony Orchestra (MISO). I have previously served as a Section Percussionist with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, Owensboro Symphony Orchestra, and the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra. Outside of the classical realm, I have recorded and performed on drum set in stylistically different groups ranging from rock, funk, and Latin to jazz and sacred music. I have also performed on drum set and percussion in numerous musical theater productions. My previous faculty positions include  the University of Miami Frost School of Music, Ivy Tech Community College, New England Music Camp, and most recently, teaching middle school band and choir for the Miami Dade County Public School system.

Musical Legacy

Dr. Scimonelli comes from a musical family going back generations. He is particularly inspired by his grandfather Dr. Frank Scimonelli, Sr. He served for 26 years as a trumpet and post horn soloist for the United States Navy Band, earning the rank of Master Chief Musician. He later went on to found the music department at Prince George's Community College in Maryland. His dedication to performance and music education inspired many people and left a legacy of musical passion for his family members. Dr. David Scimonelli continues this legacy of music performance and education by offering programs that positively impact the Weston community and beyond.
